User interface (UI) Translation (multilingual)

We can now start the actual translation of the website, finally!

Open up a translation website like http://translate.google.com in another tab. We know you can speak fluent languages but this site will help you check everything. NB Don't rely on this because the grammar will not be correct!

To translate the rest of the UI:

  1. Click the Flag for the country you want to translate
  2. Go to you home page and hit 'TRANSLATE TEXT' on the bottom right
  3. On the left is the translation, click the one you want to translate, eg 'Add to cart' (you can search at the bottom)
    Click it
  4. In the middle is the original 'Add to cart' then in the right hand box type in the translation 'In den Warenkorb legen' then hit the [Save translation] button (it's the bottom left).
  5. Repeat for everything not in green
  6. Now go to the next page and repeat

When everything is translated your UI is done. If you find anything you can't translate eg address fields then go to the page where you can change them and hit the [Default] button. So for the address fields go to www.example.com/admin/store/settings/checkout/edit/fields and hit [Reset to defaults] then you should be able to translate the fields.

If there are some words or phrases you can't translate then you will have to search for them (remember, everything is case sensitive for 'Cart' and 'cart' are not the same). To search go to www.example.com/admin/build/translate/search and type in what your looking to change then press enter. Hit edit next to what you want to translate, type it in and [Save translations].

Once the UI is translated you will want to translate your content.
