Around 10 years ago I decided I needed a place to test my code, so I created a sub-domain on a server I had for a company I was working for. I then tested DHTML, javascript and other bits on it. I then added some of the projects I was involved in and a bit of design. When I was to leave the company in 2006 I added my CV to the site, bought a full domain (davidslack.co.uk) and moved the site.
The site has been going in one form or another for 6 years. It has had 4 design changes and been updated from Drupal 5 through Drupal 7.

Once I had my requirements list I then chose to use jQuery masonary because I knew it would fill the role of the contents resizing for the different devices and Drupal 7 for the CMS with an Admin theme I had been working on based on the Smiling Wolf theme.
Next I created some sketches to get in everything I wanted for the site, I made the bottom of the site for showing everthing I was up to, the middle for content and the top for navigation.
From all of this I drew up a sitemap to show main navigation and basic sections and content types.
I had the sketches, sitemap and basic requirements so I created a design for the pages and added in some of the blocks I would need like the "What I'm listening to" block or "Latest Content" block. At this point I passed the design to a Graphic Designer Leon Russell to tidy it up and have a look at creating a logo.
Lastly, I put everything together!
