Modules (multilingual)

You have an up-to-date site but you need to add in the modules to make your site multilingual, to do this go and get the following modules and install them to your site. Search for them on www.drupal.org

  1. Internationalization (i18n) - This is a set of modules the will "upgrade" Drupal's translation capabilities
  2. Localization server (l10n server) - This is a server holding up-to-date translations of many languages. Very useful for translating the Drupal UI automatically
  3. Localization client (l10n client) - This will allow you to translate on page as you go
  4. Consistent Language Interface - A language switcher with images of the flags and names. Your user will click the flag and the language changes. The site remembers the users language too (there may be a better module for this)
  5. i18n Auto Translate - Automatically translate content ready to be looked at by a translator. a good start.
  6. You may also need jquery_updatepotx and/or rules but you will be told when you try to install one of the other modules if you need them

After you have these modules installed you'll want to start adding languages. If you followed my installation for Drupal 6 you will already have one language installed for UK English and will have translated a few words from US to UK (eg 'cart' to 'basket'). To that we will add German then any other language as we go along.
