Language switching block (multilingual)

First thing to do is give yourself a way of switching languages that no-one else can see so you can test and while you get the languages working. To do this we will enable the language switcher for Admin only.

  1. Go to www.example/admin/build/block
  2. Find (Ctr F) the 'Consistent Language Interface block' and click configure on the left
  3. Under 'Show block for specific roles:' tick the box for 'Admin' (or whatever you use for Admin only)
  4. Click [Save block] at the bottom
  5. Under Region select Left or Right depending on where you want the block
  6. Drag the block into position (mine is the bottom of the left menu)
  7. Click [Save blocks] at the bottom

You should now see a block with text for British English and a little missing image next to it. We should really fix the flag at this point.

  1. Open your FTP program (I'm using Adobe Dreamweaver)
  2. Go to /sites/all/modules/languageicons/flags
  3. Copy the file 'en.png' and rename to 'en-GB.png'
  4. Upload 'en-GB.png'

When you refresh your page in your web browser the flag for the UK should be in place.
