Settings (multilingual)

We need to change some settings before adding in any languages so the site knows how to translate everything. There are many ways to do this but this is the way I suggest.

  1. Go to www.example.com/admin/settings/language and change the Default to British English
  2. Disable English
  3. Click [Save configuration]
This will take out all the US words and only have UK.
  4. Go to www.example.com/admin/settings/language/configure select 'Path prefix only' and [Save settings]
This will use www.example.com/de for German or www.example.com/fr for France etc
  5. Go to www.example.com/admin/settings/language/configure/l10n_client
  6. Add http://localize.drupal.org/ as the 'Address of localization server to use:'
  7. Tick the 'Enable sharing translations with server' box
  8. Click [Save configuration]
  9. Go to www.example.com/admin/settings/language/configure/strings and select 'Filteres HTML and Full HTML.
    NB PHP code is UNTICKED
  10. Click [Save configuration]
  11. Go to www.example.com/admin/settings/language/i18n
  12. under 'Content selection mode:' select 'Only current language.' This will make sure only pages in the language the user has selected is shown
  13. Tick 'Hide content translation links'
  14. Click [Save configuration]
  15. Go to www.example.com/admin/settings/language/update
  16. Select the following
    • Local files and remote server.
    • Local files and remote server Edited translations are kept, only default ones (previously imported) are overwritten and new translations are added.
    • Never (manually)
    • Disabled
  17. Type in the box for 'Store downloaded files:' sites/all/translations (make sure this folder exists and has read/write access)
  18. Click [Save configuration]
