Video, movies and animations

I have tried many ways of putting a movie on line and the best way seems to be using the modules already installed.

Make sure you have WYSIWYG and TinyMCE installed and you have enabled the Media button and then you can either upload a wmv, fmv or f4v movie or use a youTube video.

YouTube

  1. Go to the video on youtube, say Aqua - Barbie Girl here
  2. Just under the movie there is a button saying 'Embed', click that
  3. Choose the 'Old embed code'
  4. Copy the code in the box (Ctrl+C)
  5. Create/Edit a page
  6. Choose 'Full HTML' as the input format
  7. Click 'Disable rich-text
  8. Paste the code where you want the movie to play
  9. Save the page

Your own file

Right out of the box this works with these files:

  • wmv - Windows media
  • 3gp, mp4, qtff, qtf - Quicktime
  • rm - Real Media

Create your movie, edit it add in anything you might want in it then save it as one of the above. Let me know if you test any other formt and it works.

  1. Login and goto your admin section
  2. Create/Edit a page
  3. Select 'Hull HTML' as the input format
  4. Put the text curser where you want the movie to be placed
  5. Click the button at the top that looks like camera film with 'Insert / edit embedded media' on the mouse over
  6. On the right of File/URL there is a button, click it
  7. A window will open, click upload
  8. Click 'Choose file'
  9. Choose the video from your computer
  10. Click the Upload button
  11. Choose your video file from the list
  12. Click the name in the little window at the bottom
  13. You are back in the Insert / edit embedded media window
  14. Select the type of file from the pulldown at the top
  15. Type in the dimensions
  16. Click the insert button
  17. Finish the page and save

Many videos come in flv or f4v and for these file types to work you will need a seperate player.

NB. Don't forget to change your php.ini to allow larger files if you are going to allow movie uploads. Use something like:

{syntaxhighlighter brush: as3;fontsize: 100; first-line: 1; }upload_max_filesize = 20M post_max_size = 80M{/syntaxhighlighter}
