All sites have the potential to grow very big, very fast and the bigger the site, the more spam your site will attract.
Your first defence against spam is to try and stop the automatic spamming by bots, this is done with a CAPTCHA. It creates an image with letters and numbers a bot cannot read so only humans can post to your site (well, that's the idea).
The second defence is to try to filter for any posts or comments that 'could' be spam. The Spam module will let the administrators filter anything that goes up onto the site by 'too many URLs', 'same content posted' and much more.
If a user still gets through all this an posts spam there is an easy way to ban them and delete all the posts and comments by them. For this we use the User delete module.
