SEM (Search Engine Marketing)

SEM or Search Engine Marketing is a way to get your website on to and up as high as posible on the search engines. You do this by link-backs and links.

Link-backs are links to and from your website so you link to a page on the web and they link back to you. Search engines pick up on this and move you up the rankings depending on how valid the link-back is (do the two sites/pages have info in common?) and also how valid the site is (is it a spamming forum or a .gov website?)

There are a few modules to help with this but most of this is manual work trawling through sites like yours and creating links to and from your site.

The first thing to do is to set up the SEO modules and get your content as ready as can be to be searched with meta tags, page titles, tags, etc, etc.

Modules

Lets get the SEM modules set up

  • Twitter - This module will allow you to automatically create a 'Tweet' when you create content
  • OAuth - This will alow you to login to Twitter to change things

Now to set up the Twitter module, follow these instructions to get it working

Accounts

The first account to get is a Google account and connect up your website. I advise Google analytics, Google mail and Webmaster tools. Also, think about Maps if you have a postage address for your website (a must for shops).

Next, a Twitter account. This will be the place you show the world your website and you will you automatically 'Tweet' each time you add new content to the site.
